*WHY IS YOUR WRITING SCORE STUCK AT 6.5 OR BELOW*
Brace yourselves. Having consulted hundreds of IELTS aspirants, it has become crystal clear that why you cannot get past the 6.5 bands barrier.
And guess what?!
It is not the IDP/BC.
It is not the “topic.”
It is not the checking criteria
It is…YOU!!
Your beliefs, perspectives, and most importantly, ACTIONS!
Yes. Plain and simple. You have nowhere to run, nowhere to hide.
So, let’s begin the face off!
1. I DON’T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG! – Really? You don’t know?
So, what you’re telling me is that you have rectified your handwriting completely, you have gotten rid of any and every grammatical/spelling error, you have added academic writing features, you are not repeating the same mistakes, you are actually working on the feedback, etc.
Everyone has done the same, but no one has received the results.
But if that is the case, no one should ever get a 7 band or above, right?
But that’s not the case! There are people (a tiny percentage though), who are achieving their desired scores.
And that is absolutely fair! This is because like every other competitive field, only the most capable people are supposed to reach the top scores.
And it is due to a simple yet unacceptable fact. That tiny percentage of people put in the work required!
So next time you say you don’t know what is wrong, think again.
2. I WILL NOT TAKE PAID COACHING / I TOOK PAID COACHING AND IT DIDN’T WORK, SO ALL PAID TEACHERS ARE HERE TO STEAL MONEY, etc.
Let me tell you a quick story.
I was overweight a few years ago. Through some help from my ripped friend, who never took any professional coaching, I was able to lose a couple of pounds. I thought it would eventually get me ripped. It didn’t. A year ago, I took professional coaching from a legit coach, put in the work, and I achieved my results in a couple of months.
Lesson? You are not good at everything. Understand and acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses.
Some people prepare all by themselves and achieve their results in 2-3 attempts, or even less.
And then some people have appeared at least 5 times, they have prepared by themselves, applied every tip and trick, but nothing worked!
If you are one of these, let me tell you a sensible way out. Go out and research about paid IELTS coaching, ensure that the coach has produced real results for aspirants SIMILAR TO YOU, is willing to work with you entirely and resolve your problems.
Anyone who wants to rant that free coaching is enough, and I should not promote paid coaching, etc. , carry on.
I promote sensibility, work ethic, optimism, awareness and growth. I will never promote an agenda that does not lead to real results and keeps people trapped, frustrated and robs them of their hard-earned money.
3. APPEARING FROM XYZ COUNTRY/CITY/PROVINCE IS MORE HELPFUL AS COMPARED TO OTHERS
Really? But the last time I checked the official IELTS band descriptors for writing, they never said that the band descriptors for a city/country are different.
It is for a simple reason. And that reason is: It DOES NOT matter!
If this opinion were to come from an IELTS examiner who has been checking IELTS exams since years and networking with the same kind of people, I would definitely buy into it.
Since it does not, and there is no declaration from Cambridge University for the same, I would say it is safe to assume that it does not matter.
For the rare people who do achieve their desired results from a different city/ country, it is likely a mere coincidence and nothing else.
Further, people formulate baseless theories based on someone else’s success.
4. YOU DON’T PUT IN THE WORK
As simple as that. Half-hearted efforts only bring half-hearted results.
You probably study consistently for a couple of months, you end up failing a couple of times, and then, your enthusiasm fades.
You keep asking for feedback, but never actually apply it.
It feels painful studying for hours, and you look for shortcuts.
Does this course work? Does that course work?
The real question, however, is that: Do you work?
5. THE CRS SCORE INFLUENCE
What was the CRS cut-off this week? This month? Last year? What will it be next?
Do this. Calculate your highest possible CRS score considering your current credentials.
Work with a reliable immigration consultant, figure out your options, make a realistic action plan that will eventually help you achieve your desired score, and then, let the CRS score discussions rest in peace.
The CRS score is somewhat predictable if you consider reliable sources and previous year trends.
However, it is not in your control. So, stop debating about things that are not in your control and start working on things that are in your control.
In an ever-changing world, where people tend to emphasise on external factors and neglect internal factors, the people who take a 100% personal responsibility tend to make the real changes that the majority of the society strives for.
Look inside, profoundly and clearly. And then move towards the outside. Acknowledge the world for what it is and then work relentlessly with it.
Anything and everything great that was ever achieved took help, but the first person you must learn to seek advice from is your inner honest self!
